Learn How to Paint is an app designed to help take beginners through their first steps in creating their own art. We hope to inspire, tutor and aide you during your journey as an artist.

The app has a number of areas including weekly articles, question and answers, as well as over one hours worth of free tutorials (with more to be added).

Examples of Topics we Cover:

1) What equipment do you actually need to buy to get started?

We detail all the paints, brushes and materials you will need for your first painting. Total cost of our shopping list? $65, for everything. Sounds unbelievable that this all you need to paint your first painting, but we show you why, how to save money and even give you a link to all the equipment you need to buy.

2) Do I need any talent or natural ability?

Of course some people have a knack for art, but many of us arent the next Da Vinci, painting is a skill just like learning to drive. Just like driving, painting is all about learning the right techniques and practising them. We take you through lessons and videos showing you really simple ways to get you through your first painting. There are simple tricks that we can show you that will improve your skill very quickly.

3) I cant even draw! How can I possibly paint?

You know this is what most people fear about art. We have solved this for you. With a free video, lasting 9 minutes we show you the CHEAT method that most artists use. (Spoiler: Most painters hate drawing too). Drawing is a very precise skill requiring practise, painting is easier to achieve because you can be much more fluid in your work.

4) I dont have lots of free time can I learn to paint?

We break our videos down into small chunks that you can watch on the bus, train, or during your lunch hour. Each video walks you through the next stage in your painting. You can work as quickly or as slowly as you want.

5) Will I need to learn to paint basic things first?

You know I hate this really old style of teaching art, its how I was taught at school, and do you know something? I failed art miserably. So the answer is NO, we want you to paint the thing that most inspires you. If it inspires you, you will be doing your very best from the start.

6) Isnt painting really messy? Wont I need my own space, easel and places to site?

You know this is a misconception, in fact it is more than that, its an outright travesty that people think this. I have even seen some courses refuse to work with you unless you have a "proper" set up. I have been painting in my kitchen for 20 years, if I am not in the kitchen I am sat in the conservatory. I dont have an easel, I dont have an artists stool, or perfect lighting. I will explain why this is a nice to have, but for most people we have to deal with painting in our homes. Painting is not particularly messy, plus I will show you some handy hints for keeping it as clean as possible.

7) I havent got lots of time to spend learning? How much time do I need to spend?

Our videos are generally split into 5-15 minute chunks. after each video we recommend you go and take the action. We would suggest that each of those steps will take somewhere between 15-30 minutes. We would guess your first ever painting will take around 8-12 hours, but you should start to see results within the first two hours. As you practice you can bring this down to around 4-8 hours.

8) What about digital painting?

Digital painting is not something we directly cover at the moment, although it is something we will be doing videos about. We have a video on our recommendations for software and hardware. (SPOILER: They are cheap or common technologies).

9) I dont understand all the jargon artists use!

Jargon is, like in any subject, just the way people speak about their hobby/profession. Art is no exception, however we try to break down everything we say into easy to understand language.
